My first session helped me to reflect on my own approach to learning and to spend some time considering how I learn myself. Using the Kolb Inventory I discovered that I was an accommodating learner.

Upon reflection I agreed that the majority of the traits of an accommodating learning style did match how I would see myself. The strength of this learning style were highlighted as:
  • Getting things done
  • Leading
  • Taking risks
  • Initiating
  • Being adaptable
  • Being practical
The learning style furthest from my own was assimilating. Through looking at this style I set myself targets to focus upon. These included analysing data, organinsing information and testing theories and ideas with others.

Other areas of development that I identified were:
  • making tough or unpopular decisions
  • knowledge and understanding about learning theories
  • developing opportunities to develop my own learning and the learning of colleagues
The session also explored the leadership challenge. As a group we identified the following gaps for our pupils:

My plan is to focus upon attendance and to examine how this can create gaps in learning. My aim is to identify past areas of concern with attendance and to explore ways in which this gap can be closed.
